Welcome to Soundmouse’s dedicated page for suppliers of music to the BBC

The BBC requires you to supply your music to Soundmouse to enable them to appear on their brand new Music Search and Download platform and the onward reporting of its usage to PRS for Music and PPL (if you are supplying a commercial recording) via auto-recognition processes. To do this, you need to be set up with a Music Manager workspace that will be the repository for your tracks (the sound recordings as broadcast and associated rights information that you will be required to supply). You can create a Soundmouse workspace to upload recordings embodying your registered compositions and recordings; revise, edit, or otherwise manage the metadata associated with any previously uploaded recordings, including PRS Tunecodes, ISRC and ISWC (if available).

Here are some tips for getting set up with a Workspace:

What to do once you’re signed into your Workspace

  1. Upload your music. These should be the sound recordings supplied for broadcast that relate to your work and or recording registrations at PRS and PPL. Ensure you supply any edits, versions or alternate mixes that would constitute a new recording and label these so that they can be clearly distinguished. You might have multiple recordings that relate to the one registration. That is OK. Start uploading your music by clicking on the Action button and selecting upload. Here you can download a dedicated Windows or Mac application to speed up the upload process.
  2. Provide information (metadata) about the music. The rights information you supply should relate to your work and or recording registrations. The provision of identifiers is important to enable PRS for Music and PPL to identify your ownership. CAE/IPI number, Tunecode and International identifiers such as ISWC and ISRC, when available, are especially important. You can supply your metadata in a spreadsheet and map this spreadsheet to Soundmouse’s data set by clicking on the uploaded spreadsheet in Soundmouse. Alternatively, you can manually add metadata via the Soundmouse user interface and use bulk edit templates to add metadata in bulk to numerous tracks at once. Permissible audio file formats Your recordings must be supplied in either WAV-format (16 or 24bit / 44.1 or 48 KHz) or high-resolution FLAC-format (similar to wav equivalent).
